My grandma played chess for many years. My brother and I played her but never won. He stalemated her once.

The article below is from the La Crosse Tribune in 1954. She was just awarded the United States Women's Correspondence Chess Champion with a perfect score of 6-0. The game had started in 1951.

She had a showcase full of trophies and was very proud of 'em.

After she had a stroke she asked me to bring a chess board up to the hospital room. We played and she beat me. She said don't ever do that again. She knew I had not played my game. The next time I beat her and that was the last time she played chess.

If anyone has a Chess.com account and wants to play, I think I'll have trouble sleeping tonight and be on there.

Man chess is an awesome game to play. I had a PLT SGT in Iraq, he was awesome he would play 3 or 4 of us at a time and he rarely lost. we had foldable tables and would box him in and he would just use a rolling chair and move from board to board playing. I never won a single game but we played every chance we got. sometimes it was fun just watching him whip another sucker than just whipping me every week.

Love the game, just no one in my family plays. Built this set for a chess fanatic hunting client I had about 40 years ago.

Dang newhouse, I don't get envious often but that's beautiful. What would something like that cost today?
