What would you guys use as a main ingredient for a sweet call lure? Instead of a stinky skunk call lure, making one that is sweet instead. Is there anything that is as potent as skunk essence but on the sweet side of the spectrum?

I know of a few odors that could fit that bill. They may not initially blow you away like skunk but a very small amount will given a bit of time fill up a large enclosed area, last a surprising long time and hold up well in cold temperatures. But the most critical aspect is how attractive are they to the target animals??? Even if they can smell them at longer distances they need to be attractive enough to make the animals come a longer distance to check them out.

Dont know if fisher are attracted to vanilla or almond but I find they carry pretty well in cold temps. I know oakmoss resonate is used some as a fixative and have played with it some. I don't know if the odor of it has any attraction by itself but man is it powerful.

A sweet berry type odor should be attractive to them. Quite a few people use strawberry or raspberry jam as a marten and fisher lure/bait. There is a commercial lure I have used that has a sweet berry odor (forty below?) that worked well. Honey also has a penetrating odor, not super loud, but as Yes Sir says it will fill up an area and stay.

I don't think you are going to find any sweet odor that is as loud initially as skunk, the closest you would probably find is a sweet, rotted meat odor, but I don't think that is what you are going for. Anise can be pretty loud though.

You can try this recipe, it has an strong sweet smell. Works well for marten. And i think it also will be good for fisher.

10 oz lure base (I use a mix of 50% raspberry jam and 50% honey).
3 oz castor.
10 -15 drops anise oil.
Glyserin til you get the consistency you like

Yes! forty below is a very good lure! It is sweet and quite strong. It contains castor and some kind of berry oil, but I have never been able to put my finger on which oil it is? Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be?

Would logan berry carry better? I have added small amount to the bacon bait and it definitely is noticeable.

There are a number of oils that could be used in a call lure for fisher. Just remember though that even if an odor is loud, make sure your target animals are actually attracted to it.

I have some folks testing one now that is on the milder side but the fisher really work it.

Question, why do you not want to use skunk for a call?

I think loudness a lure is sometimes a bit over rated. For me it is a distant third in importance most of the time. Attraction is foremost for me, followed closely by endurance. Not that loud is bad but you better have the first 2 nailed. Animals ability to smell is underrated sometimes.
