Hey everyone figured i would ask everyone in here who has a lot more experience than myself. I am new to my area of KY and this year trapping i am not going to need my waders and figured hip boots would be a lot better for what i am doing. but have no experience with them. whats a good brand that will help keep my legs warm, and are durable. thank you for your time

IMO, and I have tried a lot of brands.... these are the best on the market for durability... hands down. They are not insulated though... so you'd need to layer under them for warmth. A lot of people on this thread will probably say Dan's hip boots, but IMO, these are MUCH better quality than Dan's...

Dan's.

Best there is. Pick you boot, pick your hip boot tops and they will sew them together and make them waterproof. Just pick the materials you want for your area. They will make custom sizes if needed.

Everything else is second best.

I don't use hip boots much, but when I do, I like my heavy duty Lacrosse boots; very durable.

I’m a fan of the Dans, first pair lasted several years.

Lacrosse Trapline boots are fantastic. I see no reason why if you trap mildly and take care of them they won’t last 5 or 7 years. I’m rough on them and trap in them non stop year round and sometimes get 2 years out of them. That doesn’t sound encouraging but most of the above recommendations I’ve gone through them in half a season.

Zach, will you be water trapping? Dumb question but some people land trap in long boots for some reason. Beaver trapping?

I use these Lacrosse boots: https://www.lacrossefootwear.com/men/work/hip-boots/trapline-hip-32-forest-green.html

I had two pairs of their regular boots and they simply were not as good and got holes much faster. I think I've had the trapline boots now for maybe 4 years, fantastic. Also, when they do get a hole, use Goop MARINE VERSION. It works greatly.

Now on regular trapping boots for where you don't need hip waders but do-need waterproof, buy these: https://rogerssportinggoods.com/lacrosse-alphaburly-pro-18-inch-800-gram-hunting-boots-brown/

Secret: Roger's gets the good price (was $109) because they buy a semi load and resell and have a special deal with Lacrosse.

I’m on my 3rd season with Dans, they’ve taken some serious jabs in the bush and are holding up good, and comfortable. Those Lacrosse look pretty good too, anything with a thick carhartt type material should be tough. If you get the Dans chesties, order them with a shorter ranch boot. Bloody pain in the rear end getting my feet in the regular tall boots.

I had used the La Cross trapper-slightly shorter than real hip boots. and the heel came off one in just a few months and they just did not hold up like my New (first pair) of Dans. I will buy /dans form now on......jk

I see the Lacrosse Grange hip boots coming across my feed from time to time, and I had a pair almost 50 years ago, ankle tight waders, not the trappers, but I would try a pair as the 18” boots will/ are lasting ten years easily enough.

Always been fond of Lacrosse. I spend a month or two hunting in hip boots here in AK. Lacrosse stay "up" even without the straps. And they easily roll down to allow legs to "breathe" while hiking when dry.

Only because of miscalculations, but I have even hunted Dall sheep while wearing my Lacrosse hippers!
