I hear on the news sources that the shooter used a "30-06 bolt action hunting rifle".
What do you want to bet that the next thing on the anti 2A folks agenda is banning scoped "sniper rifles"?

And they will use it as an excuse to go after semi autos harder…. See, if he would have had a semi auto more people would be dead.

So, we need to ban both.

Buddy worked at a landfill in Chicago clay type soil I shot a target where a bank was cut by a dozer. The 30-06 impact blew an office trash can size hole in the bank the mud displacement was surprising.

The politicians are wanting more armed security for themselves as they fight to take our second amendment rights away while their side is the most likely to use violence to get what they want. Ill not bow to their desires They will never have enough of that civilians spend more on arms/ammo than the government does.

looking at the photo , it looks like a poorly sporterized M48 Turk Mauser
not a sniper rifle at all , but almost 100 year old hardware wearing a junk optic
160 yards is not far and the hit isn't what you would aim for , likely 8-10 inches higher than intended.
but people will go on and on about sniper rifles
the way the safety is and the optic mounted , unlikely the safety could even be engaged

Here's the gun.... ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/09/full-52051-268908-1000001712.png) Check out how the scope is mounted. The creature mounted that scope so far back that the front ring is barely on the receiver. I'm surprised they were able to see through it. My guess is that they shot the rifle once, decided that it kicked like a mule and didn't want their face anywhere near it, and then slapped that scope on that far back so they could keep their face away from the action. Hope the idiot got scope bite.

Looks like a shorter scope so they robably didnt have much eye relief and has to move it back to see. Scope probably wouldnt of lasted long with the rings right against the turret.

How did they sight it in with only one shot? Seems odd. I'm just guessing, but based on the likelihood of aiming center mass and hitting the neck, a miss of about a foot, maybe it wasn't sighted in at all. It wouldn't surprise me that some goon that mounted a scope like that wouldn't even know to sight in a scope.

Wonder if it was bore sighted at local gun shop for suspect. That would at least put it on the paper.

It wouldn't surprise me that some goon that mounted a scope like that wouldn't even know to sight in a scope. if you used a laser to sight in it could be off quite a bit on elevation not figuring height over bore but get you decent left right. or if you sight in at 25 yards to be spot on with a 2.5 inch Hight over bore with a 2950fps round you would be 8ish inches high at 160 yards it could have been dumb luck it happens all the time on deer but a good rifle , good optic , shooing the head off the bolts holding the target from a rest at 200 meters is not hard. hitting a 6' 5" guy between the the belly button and top of their head there is a LOT of room for elevation error.
