The current skunk tail trend has me wondering about deer tails. If only the amount of white hair on skunks matters, deer tails have long white hair too…

I believe Wiss miss commented once they did use deer tails but deer hair doesn't take the dye as good as skunk hair does

You trying to wreck the best market we got going right now??? grin

They use deer tails as well and they are worth saving at present.

My buddy puts up several thousand every year

deer tails are dyed and sold for fly tying.
Skunks tails, I don't think so, I have never seen it.
The hair on deer tails is hollow so when tied into a fly it tends to float, good for surface flies.
Another good characteristic of deer tail is when tied it kinks and folds out ward making a brush shape.
Then it can be trimmed to a shape, like a popper shape.

I've done thousands of deer tails. Mostly went for fly tieing.
