Like seriously I can't wrap my head around it . I get the whole deal why we can have nice lil pickups anymore.....well at least the retarded laws behind it ... But why the heck does everything need to have electric bell a whistle now days . Like there has to be a better profit margin for a bare bones vehicle right ? Cheaper to produce, less chips and wiring and parts ect ....and people want them so ...why not ?!

I expect the options carry a higher profit margin than the bare bones base vehicle. What I have been told.

My friend an neighbor retired from Ford on the company side. This was his response. It takes the same amount of time to run a cheap truck down the line as a loaded truck. The loaded truck makes more money per unit sold.

When they’re having no problems selling 80,000 dollar plus trucks they won’t bother with making affordable ones

I feel you Wolfdog.

My old rustbucket 2004 dodge ram kicked the bucket. (I would have had to spend at least 6K to fix it up and work is flat out and missing work would cost too much) so I just looked around and bought a 2014 f-150 5L.

Clean as heck, full synthetic oil, heavily undercoated no rust etc. Very clean well maintained, only 103,000 KM on it. cost me 23K taxes in CAD.

Looked at a new 2025 f150 from dealership was 80 or 83K I think for a crew cab. Taxes in would be over 90K. Now, I get that was probably the "screw off" over the phone price and if I came in for a test drive etc they would lower the price, but I asked for a bare bones nothing fancy 4wd crew cab. That's what they offered.

I was floored man, 5 years ago that's what my house would of cost pre-covid prices. Everything is insanely priced and I don't know how people can afford to even live, and that's an honest thought. The lord is looking after my wife and I financially, we aren't rich but hoping in a year or two she can quit her career with Nucor steel and stay home but we live very frugally as well.

Answer to your question of why not?

$$$

I remember when I bought my first truck. Carpet, electric locks and seats and the bumper was extra. My dodge tradesman that is suppose to be a work truck is loaded!

Years ago when I was working at a Chevrolet dealership a customer asked me the same thing. I told him hardly anyone would buy them. I had to remind him he was driving a brand new fully loaded Silverado Z71 To answer your other question the car companies make more money off of fully loaded automobiles.

That's why I had a rebuilt motor, bearings breaks, radiator, a c system, computer and mor in my beat up 97 2wd ranger over the last 4 or 5 years. yes i put about 10k in a 1500$ truck But its still been cheaper than a new one and it was not an all at once up front cost a d did hit as hard. Another 10k miles and I will have put 100k on it myself. still a ways to go to get my money's worth out of it.

The dealerships make far more money off the repairs than they do the actual sales of the vehicles. You can fix a bare bones pickup you arent going to fix the latest and greatest high tech wizardry.

Supply and demand. If there were enough people wanting them and willing to pay for them... someone would be making them.

Proudly banned from the NTA.

Ask for a work truck. See if that might get you somewhere with them.

Toyota is coming out with a lower priced utility type truck soon. Supply and demand sounds great, but “that’s all they offer” is more like it. The auto industry has pumped out huge fancy trucks for decades when gas has been sketchy for most of that time.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I am spoiled. I don't want a bare bones vehicle anymore.
