Hey folks.

What does everyone use for easily accessible coyote bait? Don't have any groundhogs left around here. will they eat coon carcasses? Coyote here are pretty well worthless so want to be a cheapskate about it, but want to get them out of the woods for prey population.

Thanks

Imo, coon carcasse would not go to well. If you're in a jam and need something quick and easy, hit the Dollar tree and get some canned dog food with bacon flavor. It may not be the best but it will bring em in.

Thanks guys. I live on a creek with some invasive chain pickerel. I could try using those just figured I might catch something else off of it but I'll give it a go.

When season opens I'm going to gang set the whole rea area hard for a couple days and then pull out for a month and do it again I think.

Carp works well. So do frozen mice I trap in my garage all off season. Freeze them in baggies and use a whole one down a dirthole.
If you buy a whole pork loin and trim the fat cap off when making lean pork chops, that pork fat piece cut up in to individual bait size pieces works in dirtholes too. Never had any luck with beef or chicken for some reason but pork works really well.
Nothing will touch coon don’t waste your time with those. (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) the crows barely touch them on the road dead.
If you have any deer hunting buddies that bother their own deer. Their trimmings work VERy well. Road killed rabbit has caught a few coyotes for me too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

The only animals that will eat a coon is a possum and a possum with wings (buzzard)..

Trap mice , buy mice.

I've caught yotes on tainted rotisserie chicken carcasses.

There's a lot of options that are better options.

You have any gophers that need thinned out? I often have gophers stolen from traps or they take trap and all while trapping gophers. Grind them up and add something to stop it from getting too nasty.

When Robert Waddell was doing the quest for 1000 Coyotes. All he used was quarters and blood from a muskrat and urine. No lure at all. My Nephew road along with him for 3 days and he confirmed. Just quarters and blood and urine. He took the urine out of the Coyotes he caught.

Never even thought of roadkill. mostly coon and porcupine. I bet the quill pigs would work.

Never thought of mice, I snap a few here and there, i'll keep them in a bag like you say and use them on dirtholes. Great idea. I could probably use squirrel as well in a dirthole or would that seem odd to a coyote, or would they even care?

Thanks for the ideas guys!

I trap close to home for something to do. Coyotes are worthless here pretty well, so just pulling teeth out of the woods since we're over run with them. Also wife may want to do something with all types of fur and where i'm new worthless fur is good to practice on. gets me and the kids outside during the quiet season.

I work for myself and january-feb is pretty darn quiet usually, which is also when fur is prime so i just run around and set a few. i'm hoping next year or year after I can build a real fur shed instead of using my dam bottom of my barn.
