Ive been hearing alot about them, but was wondering,, do they come ready to rock n roll? Pan tension already set? If so what is the pan tension on them. Been thinking about picking up some of them to just check them out.. Any pros and cons that you guys have run into? I’ve been running the Montana 3 for a very long time and they seem to work well for my style of coyote trapping.. but it’s a good year to experiment I guess.

Mine were extremely heavy out of the box. Like obscene.
So I waxed the notch.
Then they’d fire if you breathed hard on them.
So I had to crank on the pan bolt to get em back up to something usable.
Also needed mid chain swivels.
They’re heavy. Mass weight wise. Very very heavy. They hold an exorbitant percentage of deer.
And I just don’t like that stamped and bent pan design. That “hole”packs with wet clay, freezes in there and it’s a mess.

.
The lock up on them is amazing but it also has them holding more deer than I’ve ever seen. If you don’t have many deer or you can set where the option of catching are low might not be issue. But if you’re like here and there are more deer than every other critter combined that holding power will become annoying. Fighting snared deer is nuisance but fighting foot caught deer that wanna stand and club you with hooves is even more entertaining

Thanks guys…. Unfortunately, I do have a lot of deer that do fire off my sets,,I’ve just accepted that it’s just the way it is.. I can’t make every set a deep step down set.. Might be a no deal on the extremes…I didn’t know there was a Deer issue with them.

there are a ton of deer around here. having deer throw my traps is a daily thing, i would guess i get anywhere form 3 to 5 traps thrown by deer every day on average. it can be very aggravating some days. i can say though i have never held a deer in a trap. i've heard people say they've held deer in fully modded #3 montanas, i ran them for years and never held one. i've heard people say they held deer in fully modded #3 bridgers, i ran them for years and never held one. people say they held deer in no bs extremes, i haven't ran as many of them or for as long but i have had several deer step in them but never held one. yet anyway
when i first started setting them i would set them in areas where there weren't as many deer and still had a few step in them but not hold. then i started setting them anywhere and have had several deer step in them but again never held one.
out of all the traps i have ever used if any trap would hold a deer i would say the no bs extremes would be the one though. they lock up great.
i don't trap in the summer though when the deer are smaller, only in the fall and early part of winter when they are bigger.
again this is my experience with them, i'm sure one day i will have one to deal with one but so far so good.
now i'm talking about the no bs extreme. the no bs extreme jr's, i can't see them holding a deer at all.

I adjusted every one of mine for pan tension. I like to run 3-4lbs of tension. Some were close to that out of the box but most were not. I made the mistake of waxing several dozen after I had set tension and couldn’t get them to stay set or they were hair triggered. Ended up boiling them to remove as much of the wax as I could and used a torch to get all of the wax off the triggers.
Their lock up is SOLID. I have yet to hold a deer in one, but a trapping partner had one last year waiting for him the next morning so it does happen.
I use more of the NoBS traps than any other.

now i'm talking about the no bs extreme. the no bs extreme jr's, i can't see them holding a deer at all. I assure you, the jrs hold deer. Big mulies too. A #3 Montana will hold some deer too. Maybe 5% at best. Probably closer to 1-2%. I don’t know what percentage a No-BS jr will hold, but I know in four weeks of using them last November I released more deer than I have from a Montana over the last four years! And I set hundreds and hundreds of Montanas annually.

In the 5 or 6 years I ran all montanas I caught probably around 1000 coyotes but never held a deer in one. That’s me personally, I’m sure some people have and I’m sure sooner or later if I kept running them I would have too. You run enough traps and trap long enough you see all sorts of odd things.

Like I said I heard it about 4 coiled #3 bridgers too. I have never held a deer in one of those either. But I’m sure it does happen from time to time

I weighed a few traps awhile back to see what the weight differences were.
No bs extremes were 3lb 15oz
Extreme jrs were 3lb 10oz
My #3 dogless bridgers that I have modified with 1/4” outside laminations and 3/16” inside laminations were 3lb 2oz

I carry a rope with me just in case. The plan was to rope them around the neck and bring the down to the ground. Then after that I don’t know. Lol

Boone has done his share of cowboying, I doubt a deer is much of a challenge I was more intrested in seeing 3togo in a k9 extreme pretending to be a deer
