After the crossbow thread it might be nice to have a more positive archery thread. (Full transparency i contributed negatively but maybe have had a come to jesus moment).

I posted this on the other thread, but lets see your photos of all creeds. I started off well. Had elk everywhere around me friday night but this cow came too close at 20 paces. She only went 80 after the shot. Had a hurried quartering as it was 30 minutes till dark. Back at camp at 11pm. Went back in the morning for the rest with a single wheel game cart i could use for half the trek. Boned out the front quarters and threw them in the pack with the other hind. Luckily no griz was on the carcass. Didnt have to worry about them i thought. To my surprise I bumped into a sow and cub on the way out. Pistol wielding and yelling ensued. They ran off and was back to camp in no time after that! 2 trips, 185lbs. 3.2 miles one way. My arse is tired.

Other photo is with the oldest (3 1/2). He carried the grouse back to the truck!

That’s really awesome.

For the longest time I used 155gr LW grizzly broadheads. I killed a lot with those heads but I wanted to try something else. They were rough around the edges and required a lot of fine tuning. Sooo.. I picked up 6 Abowyer Wapiti LW broadheads 175gr. They have a facet on the rear that can be sharpened too, and my thought was, if I dont penetrate all the way thru, that rear facing facet is great to have sharp as well. The are also 1/8”-3/16” wider too. The grizzlies were a proper 3:1. Abowyers more like 2.5:1 ratio. I make my arrows out of doug fir so i also thought the extra weight would drive a lesser ratio broadhead. One other thing is they are slightly harder and after i got them sharp on the 8” grinding paper wheel I stropped them till the hair on my arms was all gone.

And after all that, shot placement is still priority

When you hit the 12 ring just about any sharp, tough head will work. Good shooting
