so an interesting thing happened here in Green county WI in 2013
the state made it rifle state wide
so Green county Sheriff staffed up for opening weekend as they had calls every single year for buildings or farm equipment hit by slugs.
what actually happed , they realized the total amount of shooting was down , the deer harvests were up and people were actually hitting what they were shooting at with one round in most cases.
funny you give them an easy 200 yard shot that the shotgun could never make but they were so frustrated by that they would empty the mag tube on and remember they were told slugs are safer and didn't go far so they hosed down hoping to hit the deer with volume of fire. frustrated by the tool they were using.
while at the same time they drilled into people danger danger a rifle will go a mile , but people believed that when they could no longer hit anything the slug was in the ground shortly after.
the reality is slugs go around 400 yards if you give them a little elevation , you just can't control where they are going other than compass direction give or take a degree or two past about 125 yards.
people having this new tool that could hit what they were aiming at and had it drilled into them it could go a mile , then they treated it like a tool that could go a mile.
instead of pretending a tool that could go 1/4 mile 440yards was safe in 200 yards.
this may not be the way it works every where but it surprised the Green county Sheriff enough they were talking about it in hunters ed classes.
