Is 3to 5 ozs difference way off (3 #s +or - ) It is a Ruger Hawkeye I bought used .I put a stiffer spring in it ,it was barely over 2#s

You can ride a fast horse slow but you can't ride a slow horse fast .

Timney offers a replacement, needs a bit of grinding for the safety though. Wolfe had spring kits for the M77/Hawkeye, not sure if that’s the case still.

Maybe try polishing the contact points on the trigger. Ultimately you have to decide if the difference is too much for you and what your wanting to do with the rifle. In most hunting situations for most people I dont think that much difference matters.

Every Ruger rifle I ever owned has had a rough or hard trigger. I got Timneys for them. I don't think it will matter if it's left handed - but ask them.

Just passin through

I doubt if altering spring tension will correct variance in trigger pull weight consistency. I'd start by having every part in the trigger system checked for a mirror finish and have them polished without altering the angles of engagement.
