The trick don't work in all the new vehicles they are putting starters in the gas tank. Stupid engineering.

United we stand.

Don't assume it's the starter, check the batteries voltage first, then check for corrosion at the terminals. Can't jump it if the insides of the terminals are crusty. And yes, the internet is the best place to buy car parts nowadays- usually about a third of what the local auto parts sell them for and they are coming from the same factories.

Buying online is fine unless you need to take the part back because it's the wrong part. I get our parts at the local parts store - you can look at the part in hand before you buy and try it.

I'm thinking you did not mean to say gas tank. There is no way that would work. Fuel pumps are now in the gas tank, but starters have to be able to rotate the engine. There are some that are placed internal to the engine in the intake manifold area.

I think he meant fuel pump not starter.

if you haven't already done it on any GM side terminal battery you have , cut all the backing out of the rubber boot that goes around the side terminal connection

I had that cause me a bunch of headaches , just a weak connection till I cut that away , if your buying a new battery it isn't a horrible idea to get one with both terminals and switch to top terminals , just so much more surface area

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I bought new cables with terminals from Rock.
4 gauge and reasonable. New bolts available too.
Good idea chopping it out.
Most recently I put a new face in the windshield.

I had that happen on my 2018 Chevy Silverado- the hammer didn't work because a wire fell off! Ha! It's worked a few times for me though.

Had to do the hammer trick on an old IH Scout. Also had starter issues that were caused by missing teeth on the flywheel.

He was at college in up state NY...and his lights

We're getting duller and duller...told him ..do not

Shut the car off....he opened the hood and carefully

Whacked the alternator with a tire iron...

They came on ...bright as a Bastid !!!

Had that happen with my Suzuki Quadrunner 250 atv back in like March or April, and it still isn't working. Got a new starter relay and now it'll try to turn over never actually turns over.

Garden tractor starters have magnets that stick to the case.
Break em and pay 250 plus for new non-MTD tractor
starter. Boats too. Or play musical starter parts games.
Hint, the paint is chipped on the broken magnet ones.

That is a good tip/hint. Gotta remember/look out for that. Thank you for posting it.

Yup.... batteries now a days...last for about 5 years.

So make sure that it's up to snuff
