Right now I’m boiling up a bunch of walnut hulls to get the black liquor out of them..I somehow managed to misplace my 30 gallon drum I used to boil my traps.. so I’m using a smaller canner that I found at the thrift store to put walnuts in, to boil, then strain the juice out into 5 gallon buckets..
I have all kinds of 5 gallon buckets,, I was wondering if I could just put my coyote traps in the 5 gallon buckets full of the liquor and soak them..
I don’t doubt that they will dye in there ,, sitting until November… but will they be deodorized effectively??
I’ve never tried to soak them before.

My water traps and bodygrips get paint dipped, but my coyote traps still get done the old way…

Cold soaks will give you some color and clean the traps. You just wont get the dye to penetrate the metal the same as boiling.

Dig a little Deeper. Find the 30 gallon Drum!!!

Your old dye drum has special powers, good luck and memories. I hope you find it?

Now your traps are going to smell like walnuts LOL.
I would rather have my traps have NO odor.

Boil the traps in the canner with the hulls, it'll take longer since you can only do a few at a time but if boiling the hulls in there anyway, fit all the traps you can.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I just toss a bunch in with the traps, and boil...but I wash off the traps afterwards. I'm mainly using the tannins to clean the traps for waxing but it does darken them a bit. Assuming they aren't new.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Thanks guys…if I don’t find that drum,, I’ll probably buy another canner… 5 bucks or so… save that liquor and boil the traps in the liquor…instead of having walnuts floating out all over the place .. I’ll have 2 of them boiling at the same time.

Grandkids are over this weekend,,, I’ll have them help me dip the other traps…probably have at least 3-400 that need to be done.
