My wife and I were just discussing this..... it must be acceptable losses to the cartels. Lots of boats must still be getting through to keep running them, knowing if they see you there won't be much but pieces left.

'Just a drop in the bucket, it’s like swatting black flies there’s always more to take their place, if you really want to hurt them you need to hit the production plants and go after the leaders, heck if you stared seizing their assists you could probably pay off the national debt an even show a profit

The way to fix the cartels is to sanction the Mexican government until they stop allow the cartels to rule. Watch Narcos Mexico. Very good series on netflix.

If only the government would all agree to sanctions both parties they could solve that problem easily. With one party fighting every common sense and trying to make US better it won't happen. My hats goes off for the Pres. for at least trying no other Pres. would take on the problem just let things get worse they must not care.

Read an article about this...small fishing villages basically starving with no gov't promised support feel they have no choice.... villagers can tell who accepted a trip cause they're suddenly buying clothes, good meat and other goodies. Apparently the pay is good but not the big score you'd think.

These trips have dried up with the heavy enforcement...but when desperate some will still try...not cartel boats, just some poor dumb fishermen transporters trying to make a living...

You want to hurt the cartels?, get the corruption out of Mexican gov't, military, and police...don't hold your breath though.

I am cynical. No U.S. politicians, no CEO's, no bankers arrested yet. Street drugs don't seem to be drying up. No labs blown up. I still don't believe there is a war on drugs.

Poor fisherman or not, hard to sympathize with drug runners.

The boats in the videos don't look like poor fishing boats.

Remember the same story about Somali pirates? Poor fisherman who had no choice other than to get some AK 47s and RPGs and attack yachts and take hostages. Buncha bs imo.

Closing the boarders and taking out drug runners is a start. I guess we shall see if it grows from here.

Venezuela and Guyana are in a nasty territorial dispute over oil, with Exxon caught in the middle

Sinking some drug runners is the side show

I'm with Danny. There is no real interest in ending the drug trade.

It’s like on landman, when Billy Bob tells the cartel guy, that if they keep disrupting the oil business

The army will come in and start running training exercises

Sorta similar,,,,

When you have nothing and a starving family, you have nothing to lose. EVIL people prey on desperate people.

Just what the story said, maybe some of it is true, either way, you play stupid games, you get stupid prizes.... everyone knows the risk...you don't think actual cartel members are on those boats, lol

But without a strong response, nothing gets better. Unfortunately, where there's a will there's a way...
you need to cut off the head of the snake, that snake has many heads though, including officials of all types in both gov'ts and private sector....

The same as there is no interest in making drugs legal.

It is ALWAYS about the money.

I do believe there is a desire by some to make our country a better country by hoping to eliminate drugs.

Some have said we need to sanction the Mexican govt. I say we make the punishment for using those drugs supplied by cartels much much harsher. If you deter the consumer from buying the product, demand will dwindle and that would lay a hurting on the cartels. But all we do is slap them on the wrist, give them free detox, set them back out on the street only to do the exact same thing over again. We are having no effect on the drug trade from either side yet we are doing nothing to facilitate that change. What is it they say about doing the same thing and expecting different results? Drugs are harsh on everyone. A drastic change is needed.

PRESIDENT TRUMP is doing something different. No one on this site has any clue about the drug trade or exactly what is going on now. I don't want to know. But if ships off Venezuela are helping let's give it a minute to see what happens.
