But nah it's crazy how long that tap will last line usually break or get worn out before the taped ends come off

Yeah, the tape holds on awhile, I just don't like the look, lol

I haven't made a "proper" splice in a long time...but I don't like tying on a pot with a knot, or for a loop..
I use a quick splice technique, whereas you separate one strand and tuck the whole tag end through and repeat through another different strand a couple inches up, usually do 3 tucks...I use a hollow base fid I make that fits the line, ...put fid through strand, stick line into open base and pull through, lots easier on the fingers....never had one fail...but don't recommend it for heavy use like you're doing....plus everyone should know how to do it correctly....just thought I'd share.... grin

Who picks the color for them lines? That's turquoises. Like Navajo jewelry. Looks like a color my daughter would pick. At least they're not pank or purple.
I'd pick something more earth tone. Forest green or maybe dark brown.

Also, a boat cushion to sit on would be kinder to your (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) when sitting on that raised deck. Sittin' like that will put a grid on ya.

Not Sampson double braid??

Putting an Eye splice that stuff is quite an evolution.

I had to check the instructions every time I did one.

I enjoy that type of work. Not much call for rope work in my area.

I do keep up tying basic knots Along with some fancy work.

I’m surprised in that industry they would rely on a hand tied splice, and use one piece ropes or some type of crimp.

I was too. I figured OSHA or the Coast Guard or whoever would not let them alter any kind of safety line.
In the trades we couldn't alter straps or cables that were used for lifting or securing. . We couldn't repair our own ladders either.

A proper splice doesn't fail, the rope can break though, and chaff through. Thus the need to use chaffing gear and periodic replacements. Nothing wrong with doing it by hand, it's called seamanship, been working since the first canoe, lol

Nope most of the industry out here still uses splices. Mainly because there free and easy and a proper one won't break . I've had multiple lines break and pop but never a spliced eye. Also a crimp or something is a worse fail point and can mack it harder if we need to throw the eye which we dia alot

Egh for the most part it's just kinda one of those company deals. You order this you get this color. Not sure past that honestly. Cotton lines are gonna be white , this poly steel will be green, ect. Personally I'd get pink if I could ..one I like the color and two no of these line thieves would touch them. laugh
But this is the stuff we usually get for our general purpose lines 600' roll for 6 100' lines. Not too heavy ... Think the average ones is like 50-60 lbs , not to bad humping it onactiss a 600' tow especially if you could it right . Pretty strong for most applications, and really easy to throw , especially ones it's broken in .

Was also able to get them to finally order what we call Marti Gras line wish is this lil stuff. It's just for quarter lines on the boat though

And we also have cotton lines for when we need to do stuff like stop the tow when where coming in a lock . And there's also spectre which is like a kevlar braided deal that or face rops are made of but alot of bots will take the old ones and use them for various deals smile

Ha ha pink yo stop the thieves. I see we think alike. Painted my Ironworking tools pink back in the early 2000's for that reason. Tools never walked off after that
