Not that I agree with this change and too me it makes it complicated but here is why.
Bull riding has transformed into a team sport due to the introduction of a team playoff system, which requires teams to compete against each other in a regular season format. This system adds a strategic element to the sport, as coaches must assign riders to bulls based on their performance and the bulls' tendencies. The team format also emphasizes teamwork and coordination among riders, as they work together to reach the eight-second mark and score points. The sport's evolution into a team sport has been driven by the need for structure, competition, and the opportunity to showcase the skills of multiple riders.

I feel its to get new companies involved adding more sponsorship money which in turn trickles down to the riders .
It's evolving to try to get more viewers who watch other team sports , football , baseball and so on .
Good bad or indifferent I've worked the Billings MT PBR event for nearly 28 years and have friends who are still there working hard to bring the sport of bull riding to the people everywhere !

PBR decided to follow in the footsteps of the NFL and NASCAR. Change the rules and do what they can to alienate their fan base. Have only watched PBR once since the change. Yep it worked well for NASCAR to change who they were for the hope of the all mighty dollar

It kind of reminds me of when they had the Global Cup where they split Brazil, Canada, Mexico and America up into teams and they rode against each other. I have a hard time following PBR during the "Teams Season".

The PBR has done some great things for the riders namely getting more money in the pot but they have done some fairly shady crap that I won't soon forget.
Justin McBride's first world title would have been in serious jeopardy had Jody Newberry won the average at the finals that year. It would have been near mathematically impossible had Newberry given scores for 2 rides he was incorrectly disqualified for.
While JB Mauney was still young, the PBR promised all the riders at the finals they could draft (pick) their own bulls after the first round. BUT when it looked like Kody Lostro was not only going to win the world title but also the average, they suddenly reneged and did the choosing when it came time for the short go. Ironically the "random" draw gave Kody the only bull that was sure to buck him off and therefore Mauney the average win.
My thoughts have always been that both McBride and Mauney were great bull riders and going to win plenty w/o the PBRs corruption.
If the PBR cared about rodeo and bull riding fans, Donny Gay or Justin Mckee would still be on TV- not Craig Hummer.

Somebody on you tube watched some bull riding and said "Can this get any dumber???", Sounded like a challenge, so they just had to try.
