Since January of this year. Worst year I've ever seen for rats. Only one was caught in a conventional rat trap, the rest in 120's or #1 long springs. Don't know how many poison got. They mostly left it alone.

That's a lot of rats. What's the food source attracting them?

Eh...wot?

For my money the best barn rat trap ever made is a #1 jump. I fasten them to a brick, set trap between brick and wall.

Looks like that one got caught by some loose skin. Almost got away so it seems.

I'm working on that. My large garbage bin is not rat proof but as soon as time permits I'll make it so. In February and March it was my trapshed-barn with feet and fleshings the big attraction. I don't have any livestock currently so animal feed is not an issue.

And almost forgot, the black walnut trees next to my house drew them in big time too. Have found bunches of rat chewed out walnuts under my house.

How did you rig and set the 120's?

Blind set with a wooden coni pan. Just setting travel ways. They're almost too smart to bait set.

That sounds like a good option. I don't have rats to try it on, but a variation would be a fine tuned 110 set along run, normal wire triggers offset to the side away from the wall. Cardboard square slipped over the trigger wires, with 1" to 1 1/4" hole in lower corner along wall side. Cardboard blocks the run, and hole in lower corner being the way thru. Offset like that amplifies the sensitivity of the trigger wires. They touch it to crawl thru and it goes BANG!

U-tube took them down, but used to be a trapper guy out of Alabama that put up some good trail cam videos catching big Norway rats in the wooden snap traps......Victor's and such. Rats so big kill bar hit them on the forehead vs. behind the ears. Knocked them out, but later got up and walked away. A 110 size seems about perfect for those big rats.

Gosh Carl 48 from one house is my record, but I think that was around 3 weeks or a little more.

The rats around here are big, standard pussycat can’t handle them. My jack russle kills them though. Gotta remember Beaverpeeler’s rats are used to eating beaver scraps. Jumbos!
