Anybody have any experience using these on the line ? Little concerned about their effectiveness at only 420 fps. Was thinking about using them for coon in town ?

I tried a box when I first seen some years ago. At that time I just wanted cheap for coon dispach. I also dont like messing around if make bit off mark shot why use LR22 not shorts. So I personally didn't like them also if recall correctly they were dirty.
Not sure how they are now? like said this was some years back haven't bought any since.

I use them on birds in my barn, they do a great job on that.

I have used them for coons and skunks in town and they will work with perfect placement. In my opinion you are better off with one of the many air rifles that offer a bit more oomph.

I am more than willing to take the heat for it. I'm used to having women yell at me anyway. 😁

I don't know what kind of power they use in that brand, but it stinks so bad when you shoot it, it about makes me gag.

Sam is spot on though, any excuse to buy a new gun is a good one!

Not quite enough steam in my experience and forget anything at any distance. They are kind of a specialized soft target/short range item in my experience. Would be worth considering for indoor work. JMO but there are many air rifles out there that can do the same job and are more versatile in power range.

Well I just shot a few. They are quiet for sure and they do smell but I don't find that an issue. I also picked up some CCI quiets. They're a little louder but almost twice the fps so probably give them a go.

Aquila subsonics are the best. They are actually subsonic. Remington for example is not, or alot hotter anyway.

Point being, my experience with Aquila subsonics is just right. I wouldn't take a coon with less but people us CB's so to each their own I guess.

Aquila Subsonics give you thud in a coon like hitting a water balloon full of mashed potatoes, i.e. just right.

Thats with a rifle shooting one 20' out of the tree.

if you want quite from a rifle

CCI 40gr Quiets 710fps , use the longest barrel rifle you have , they work well to about 25 yards then start to drop https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimfire/cci/quiet-22/6-960.html

if you want quite and effective , the answer is always go heavier not lighter

they make a CCI quiet segmented 710fps and a Semi auto Quiet that is 45gr 835fps https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimfire/cci/quiet-22-semi-auto/6-975CC.html

https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimf...0LR&prefn2=grainWeight&prefv2=45
they have a few 45gr options

These are my go to for trapping , pistol or 10/22 the cycle well and work well , not too much noise but not quiet , they are as close as I could find to a CCI standard velocity in a hollow point.
https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimfire/cci/sub-sonic-hp/6-56.html
work on small game as well. lets me shoot SV for targets and these for animals and no noticeable poi change

Agreed on the heavier vs lighter save for indoors or where overpenetration is an issue. Heavy does more damage than light.

indoor , segmenting is the way to go , go in , not out on coon size animals
they can still be 40gr but they break into 3-4 parts 40gr impact , but not deep penetration

I and others I know have tried the CCI quiet, and we all agree that accuracy sucks! I have gone to two different rounds: CCI subsonic 40 gr hp, and CCI suppressor 45 gr hp. I do shoot both suppressed and have been very happy with them. I use them for ADC work often requiring 50 yard shots and accuracy is great!

the shot to shot spread on the quite is bad , I had them making 2 groups at 25 yards about 3 inches apart

at 10 yards they do ok , that isn't far for shooting game but it is a decent size garage if your shooting stuff in there.

I haven't used the segmented yet but it serves the same as a lighter being frangible. I got a lesson in heavy with the aguila sniper ss 60gr. Not accurate at distance and will keyhole in some guns but dang if it don't hit hard, especially stuff you dont want hit.

years ago i picked up a box of Aguila that had no powder and a heavy bullet.
figured they might be good trapping near houses, set me up a chunk of 3/4 plywood and took a shot, dang bullet got me center of mass didn't hardly leave a mark on the plywood.
on a big boar coon they didn't do much more than make him madder, i went back to being loud and useing cci stingers.
