Our season opened on September 13th. I haven't hunted yet. Years past I would've never missed any day that I could've went hunting and I'll get going soon. It's easy to say that I'll wait on cooler weather, but it was in the 50s opening weekend...lol

Anyway, I've got a couple good deer utilizing the property and I enjoy running the cameras and trying to figure out the best location to intercept a mature buck. Our best and most active buck movement is approaching....early October.

Its been rainy here and most of all the corn is still standing. Until corn gets picked here its very tough to find mature bucks.

No need. Set me up to hunt muleys or elk in Utah and you can come here and kill a whitetail.

I aint been sitting around. Just haven't climbed a tree yet.

Been working on the lease (property I haven’t deer hunted on much in 4 years)...trying to get the roads, plots, stands back in usable condition. Hurricane Helene blew all the tower stands over and damaged them, except for this behemoth. But, it has been in the wrong spot since the new pine plantation has grown up past couple years.

Wife and I struggled this morning to get it loaded on a trailer and then off loaded to it's new permanent spot. But, we did it. Now it needs some TLC.....paint, camo, anchoring, etc. That's the rest of this week's project.

I don't hunt out of the box blinds much...unless it's rainy or real cold weather, but they're nice under those conditions.

Swamp, do you ever get pics of any non-typicals?

They're rare here. Ive killed one buck with split brows and matching kickers on this property.....several years ago.

But, occasionally there is a double beam shows up and a few others with kicker points.

This one looked promising until yesterday...lol.

Got pics of him in velvet and past couple weeks hard-horned. Thinking he is just a 3yr old. He shows up now and has already broken that beam off at the base.

If it broke off down into his skull plate...he is likely doomed (brain absess will probably get him.)




If you zoom in you can see where his ear butt had been rubbing on the beam.

Bummer he broke off. Hopefully he survives the year and you see him again next year. Would be cool to see how his rack looks next year.

Kickers and split brows are pretty common around here.
