My 20 years in Alaska I didn’t do any mink trapping. Prior to that when I caught mink I always fleshed the fat off but left the saddle. Have things changed? I was watching a Canadian trapper flesh a mink on YouTube and he removed the saddle when he fleshed his mink.

I have numerous bridges and culverts at which to trap coon and mink this year and plan on adding a bunch of mink sets on my line.

I know things change in the fur market, especially after 20 years. I want to make sure I’m putting my mink as the market desires. So, saddle on or saddle off?

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

That's the way I still do it, just like a rat. Saddle on.

I leave the saddle on.
I did have a mink a couple years ago that looked like it had so much fat under the saddle that I took it off. I wasn't deducted when I sold it at auction. It was an x-large male
