Son (father of my grandson and granddaughter) needs a couple front tires and axle shafts. I texted him about it and he states that it doesn’t see tending too right away. I told him to get it done and I’ll take care of it. He’s comes back with, “That ain’t my style.” What the heck is wrong with these kids these days?

I can't pretend to understand the entire situation. But is is it possible that it's a pride situation with your son? I know that I definitely turned down help in the past because I felt I needed to take care of something on my own, even if I couldn't afford it at the moment.

maybe he thinks he knows best and being all grown up can't have dad telling him things need fixed and it has to be his idea. Hurts his pride. Could be he does not realize it could life threatening to him and his kids.

Yep, sometimes a fellers gotta do things himself even if it means saving up for it or finding the time to do it.

Maybe he can't afford it, and doesn't want the help. Sometimes it's good to let our kids struggle and suffer. There were times early in our marriage where we couldn't afford certain things or had to delay some purchases, and in-laws offered to pay. We refused, because we knew that it's good for young couples to struggle together. It's part of growing together. We didn't want others to do things for us, we wanted to make our own go at life, even if it was hard, without taking the easy way out.

He's hauling your grandkids in a car that is unsafe to be operating? Tell him he's being stupid and get the car fixed, he can pay you back if he feels bad about you paying for it.

I can see where having his father in law put tires on his truck is not his way of doing things , maybe you could better explain you are concerned about the safety of the kids riding in the truck with bald tires. and that is where your concern is coming from

Maybe the daughter-in-law thinks your making a down payment on the future so when you get old and down and out, they will be obligated to take care of you. And maybe will do that anyway but they don't expect to be compensated in advance. Maybe she thinks it will be better to wait 'til you die then clean house, lol!
