Guys, I got the replacement starter and I’ve been fighting it trying to get it back into place..I wrestled the old one out.
While trying to pop the new one in.. I popped the oil level sensor wires off because of the tugging and struggling,,
I was able to get a new piece.. but was wondering if that’s is a common problem for Chevy trucks?
This has got to be the hardest starter I’ve ever had to replace.

Could be worse, I had a truck years ago that was a real pain. In order to change the starter you first had to remove the right front shock, then put a jack under the oil pan to hold the engine up while you removed the shock tower and right side engine mount. After that you could remove the exhaust so that you could access the starter. Replaced the starter in that truck 3 times. Shot the better half of a day working on that.

It helps if you are still flexible.

Think id just shoot the truck at that point lol.

Match up the drive nose to make sure it’s the same then try to move the flywheel/flex plate to see if that’s the issue being out of line with the new drive.

Sounds like the old 2 wheel drive S-10s. Remove the engine to do a oil pan gasket.

Remind me again why I don't miss working on cars for a living.

Did plenty of those on Cadillac NorthStar's. Wasn't a terrible job. Even did a few as a roadside tech.
Sure beat crawling on the snow covered ground in some back alley.

k snow 1999 S-10 here. Great little truck, 26 or more MPH and only has 350,000 miles on it now. Yep put in a new started 10 years ago. I will not do the next one, have a great new mechanic who is in his 30's to do that kind of stuff now.......jk

We used to sell the "S-10 package". Pull motor (if 2WD), intake oil pan and front cover reseal. And ball joints. If high enough mileage, we'd throw in a starter for parts cost only.

I’m tired and my neck is hurting ( I still do have issues sometimes with my cervical stenosis).
But dang!! I just didn’t know if Chevy starters were notorious for being a major pain in the rear.
I’m pretty sure I got the wires , wired back correctly on to the new clip. I was thankful that the independent auto parts store had that particular clip instead of having to go to a junkyard.

I was wondering if that oil level sensor just lets someone know if the oil level is low or if affects other working parts of the engine…

Some European car maker once had a starter that was inside the bell housing, I believe.
