From facebook, it popped up this morning. My old stomping grounds and my river. My house was just out of frame to the right and far bank. It's been twenty years and I still miss the warrior river every day.

Nice country. I can see why you miss it.

My wife says my housekeeping style is best described as, "There appears to have been a struggle."

The river is silting up bad. That green flat on the bottom left of center used to not be green. Is was a broad flat dropping off into the dredge main channel to the right. It was a log and root wad catcher and home to some really nice flatheads. Pulled quite a few off that flat, 40-50 pounders common. The drop off edge was good for blues as well.

Due west of Birmingham, Alabama. It is the junction of the Mulberry Fork, aka big river, upper left, and the Locust Fork, the bend to the right, to form the Black Warrior River, just the warrior to us locals. About twenty miles up Locust Fork is Birmingport, the head of navigation and a major coal loading port. The head on the Mulberry Fork is Gorgas Steam Plant about thirty miles up. The Corps of Engineer maintains a 12' deep channel 100' wide all the way to Mobile.

BTW, all that land to the right is a WMA and some of the most rugged and inaccessible land in the state, some of it old strip mine land and spoil bank. To the right out of frame i had a full section of state forestry land, not on the books as WMA but open to all, right out my back door. It was our local secret that we told no one about. I regularly cut the hounds loose from the yard.

If any of y'all old coonhunters remember the name Curtis Doles from back in the day, he lived in the camp in the upper center.

You want some real fun ride the river at night with the hounds letting them wind the coon and cutting loose when they strike. You might have to wade a deep muck slough or climb a 100' bluff to get to them when they tree. A young man's game.
