Slavery was not okay. An army invading your country wasn't either. Should have been handled at the state level. All it would have took was non slave states and countries refusing to purchase southern cotton. The slave industry would have dried up.

It wouldn't have worked. Most US cotton was sold to Britain and made into cloth in Liverpool. Very little cotton wasn't exported. The other countries didn't care about US slave labor at all.

I would like to hear someone up North's personal opinion on why it was okay to have slaves up north, then haul off and kill southern people over doing the same thing...Take your time.

I don't think anyone should ever own anybody as property.

I don't think the fed's should trample all over state's rights.

My opinion is if the south had won, the country would not be in the shape it is today. On the other hand, if the lazy plantation owners had harvested their own crops in the first place, it also wouldn't be in the shape it is today. So there. It's both sides fault.

The North had many people who wanted a strong Federal government and wanted to do away with state rights. Slavery was at best, a very minor issue, in most peoples minds.

Your looking for the high ground, you won't get that with me....It would have been the same in the 1860's when my ancestors stacked them up like cord wood, despite never owning any slaves.

I would do the same today, and have absolutely no interest in having slaves.....I would entertain honest discussions about the war, but not manufactured narratives.
