I did that in a sealed five gallon bucket years ago. I went out of town and buried it a couple feet deep in sand. When I went back to check it a couple years later it had been dug up and the bucket was broken up around the top. I don't know if it was dogs or coyotes that got into it. I planned on dumping it in several brushy places for draw stations to snare coyotes. What is your planned use for it?

I do this with skulls and it works great. Toss the whole critter skull in a bucket or barrel, fill with water and let it soak all summer. Cleans the bones/antlers/skulls right up. Sure its smells but ive smelt worse.

Did you open it this morning? I walked out on my deck this morning here in Utah and I think I smelled it.

I would run everything thru a tea strainer its just a tight screen mesh bowl use a wooden spoon to help it thru put into clean glass jars and let the cream and juice separate after a couple days pour off the juice and stabilize seperate from the cream there shouldnt be any meat still in there just juice and an oil slick cream

T73 let us know how it comes out. I'm curious now to hear after 5 years in a sealed barrel.

Let us know how it tastes.
Seriously, I bet it will be attractive to animals. Especially since you left the pods on.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

The oil on top will likely made a decent lure.

both the juice and the oil/cream have a place in formulating lures and baits
whats left over can be used as a bait station but i promise you the buzzards will zone in on it (the scraps from the barrel) i would instead put in a neighbors mailbox

Do me a favor before you open it up. Make sure the prevailing wind is coming from the north. We don't have skunks in this past of Virginia yet, and I couldn't be happier about not having to smell those vile creatures.

Have a buddy open it and take a video. Extra points if you don't tell him what is in the barrel.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.
