Lots of rain this year. This one landed luckily on tiny dry spot. Canoe was able to get 20 feet to it thanks to the beaver.
Now buddies dropped into a slough. First time and glad i brought a 4 ton come along. No problem after I reattached to better tree's.
Congratulations to bfisch for nice pictures of harvest. Please let all see your fall moose pictures hunt, I know more of you were out.
Sweet bear, a toad there waggler

This is lucky I call. Only saw him in spotting scope. Never could draw him out of woods. Still there at season closed.
I truly believe it's one I passed at 22 yards two years ago. It was in the 49 club with not enough mass. Will be hoping it has good winter and it is there next season. A real nice one for sure

A very nice bull moose ! It's got to be a relief to have full freezers !

You're friend along the snare line .

Man, that's great! And getting the transportation that close makes it all the better!

Thanks for sharing. How many trips with the canoe to get it out?

Takes 2 trips with just myself and gear. 200# for myself and 300 # or so of moose. . Old town tripper good for up to 800 but harder to handle. Couple inches of water is all needed and can be slid over low beaver dams without unloading meat. Tough rigid canoe sure beats any inflatable

Are you still in Kodiak? Obviously, no moose there. Just wondering if you are still trapping the island.

I have a place on the mainland kenai. Still have a lot in kodiak and go over on ferry alot for work. Deer numbers are great this year and hopefully get some in. Freezer is full but know a couple good homes there would be happy. I like the trapping there better. Some people goto the slope for work, me kodiak. No moose on kodiak but I did just turn down helping on a elk hunt..Spring bear over there for me..
Anybody thinking of hunting Deer on kodiak this could/should be a great year to visit! Couple of mild winters helped. Saw great numbers glassing in August.
Residents get 3 Deer, non Residents now get 1. I myself don't like that for you, sorry. When you travel here and spending time and good money you should be able to get 2. First one to be a successful trip, second chance holding out for that special one.

When I lived in Kodiak, 1982-1985, the deer were doing pretty well, though winter of '84 was very cold. I have a picture somewhere showing Woman's Bay completely frozen.
Back then, never saw or heard of bears in town. Never even saw them back by Buskin Lake, and that was before the Coast Guard put the golf course in!
I did some beaver and otter trapping out the road, past American River, all the way past Chiniak. Fox, too. The old WWll roads back then were very rough and grown in. The old-timer that owned the Chiniak bar and restaurant had an old connex with heat and would let us stay in it while trapping. And after dinner he would drink whiskey with us for free, as long as we drank Dickel. We hated that stuff, but were poor, (my trapping partner and I), so we would buy a couple beers and a shot of Jack Daniels first. Then the Dickel was fine!
Those were some good times. Lots of otter and fox back then.
