A guy was selling an old 20 gauge O/U yesterday and the urge struck me to buy it for a buddies son. It is 24 inch barrels and IC/M so it should be a grouse and woodcock killing machine. It was just a cheap old Armi San Marco and certainly nothing fancy but it is single trigger. My plan was to begin the hunt for a stock that I could cut and "make work" and save the original stock to put back on it when he gets a little older.
Now there are about 100 of these cheap O/U's that were made overseas and it seems like they changed design (and wood) about every third day. I decided to start rooting around in the garage and see if I could find something close enough to modify and make work. The very first box I pulled off the shelf had a brand NEW stock that was a PERFECT fit and after opening a few more boxes, I found a forearm that isn't a terrible match. I guess I will be cutting the original stock and keeping the new wood for when he grows up in a few years. I love it when a plan actually comes together.

No, it is a cheap overseas thing. An "Armi San Marco" probably from the 70's or 80's. If he breaks the stock on this one, there are 9 more brand new ones still in the case of new stocks.

He wouldn't like it if the world found out he was a decent human being. I'm sure he'll cut off an old lady in traffic or park in a handicap spot to make up for it.

That ought to make a superb little grouse gun for the kid.

I dont know much about grouse but that would be ideal for a first quail gun. Nice find.

Early season pheasant's nightmare too.

I bet doves would be fun with it too!

Nice find 160!

Actually dumping a bag of marbles by the handicap ramps is more of my calling card.

Why not just keep the original forearm on it and just replace the butt? The way kids grow it won't be terribly long before you go back to the original anyway

Many years ago I had a Herter's O/U. I sold it. Never had any issues with it, but a gunsmith friend of mine said parts for it would be unavailable if anything ever went wrong with it. Shot a lot of birds with it.

The original wood is very blond and the butt stock is much darker so they wouldn't match worth a hoot. By swapping both, the sets match much better.

Makes sense but just the way I see why do more work for something that's temporary. As a kid I sure wouldn't have cared, my first gun, single shot Cresent Arms 12ga the forearm was taped on with electric tape, but it was gun and by golly I was happy to have it. My dad's best freind sold it to me for 1ct because I insisted on paying, I was 13

I found a CASE of new buttstocks for this shotgun and another CASE of new forearms. I figure if I have had them this long I may as well use them when I can. I still have 9 new stocks and forearms for it to do something with someday.
