hello, was wondering if anyone had success with 1/2 steel pipe “super stakes” and was wondering if any advice was to be had on nut placement or solid versus open ends? All advice is welcome.

I have been making my own for years with that black steel gas pipe 4 to 6 inch long piece cut at an angle each end with a nut welded in the middle, if you have good bottoms or ground you can get by with shorter pieces,my driver is also homemade with a piece of cold rolled solid rod with a piece of black pipe welded on the end that matches my stake

Not really any big secrets its pretty straight forward

No need to weld on a nut just drill a hole in the pipe. Then take your cable with trap connection in place and run the tag end through the hole when the cable comes out the end of the pipe you can hammer on a nut. Just make sure your driver end doesn't contact the nut.
And you should hammer down the end of the pipe that will be driven into the ground. You don't want your anchor filing up with dirt as your driving it in.

Yep. If you're welding abilities aren't the best, a welded nut is just a extra failure point.

I make a similar style out of 1/2" conduit for water sets. Works great. I do not like to smash one end closed though because they are hard to clean the mud out of them if you do.

The Schedual 10 water line pipe is a lot cheaper than schedual 40 or 60 gas pipe.

For you guys that use the schedule 10, are they disposable or do you retrieve them?

I always retrieved mine, except once when I left them in the ground to see how long they would last. 7 yrs before the cable rusted out enough to fail.
