After the new law I am waiting for the new rules. the ODFW site says new rules every other year so do we just hope that they leave it as it for this year?

I just spoke with ODFW's Furbearer coordinator Samantha Fino. She tells me that the new law is slated to become effective January 1, 2026, but that in reality they don't expect to have a map available of closed areas until after the June 2026 Game Commission meeting. So she's saying that it's not likely that OSP would enforce anything for the 2025-26 trapping season (but we should play nice and not trap public impacted waterways after the 1st).

Remains to be seen whether navigable streams will be considered public land and elgible to be included in the ban.

Update: Samantha called me back after consulting with Derek. Oregon trappers will not be affected by the new law during the 25-26 season. The new law will be implemented in the 26-27 season. Also, navigable waters with adjacent private landowners will not be included into the closed areas.

So...go out and trap those waters that will be off limits next season!

good information!
I mostly trap creeks that you can put a 8' board over and walk across. My concern is they will draw a circle around a county and say-Not here!
Why would they ban navigable water ways? Would a beaver be allowed to block them up (no longer navigable right).

If you want to have an idea of what will be off limits starting in the 26-27 season you can look at the DEQ map of impacted waterways in Oregon. It looks like just about everything. But if the adjacent landowners are private (and not large timber company holdings) it should have a green light.

Minz, if those creeks you trap run through public land you'll be SOL. I don't believe they will ban entire counties though.
