Used to use Victoria #3’s. Bought 10 dozen Duke 650 pro’s and am liking them. Big strong traps. Held a small black bear in one. That was fun had my wife with me. I’m a bait guy, we don’t have a big ant problem most of the year. I like Kaatz bro’s red label and Powder River paste bait. Either a T-bone set or dirt hole with a little sheep wool.

…he killed hisself with a 22 under the chin last week due to his wife dying

MB 650s inside/outside laminated. Beaver for bait with a few adds, and bobcat urine.I alternate with a few commercial baits from Dunlap/Gomez, Craven, Dobbin, Jack Hill, ...
I have a few 3N LS I like in the snow. Cable restraints also.

My most favorite best way to pile up coyotes is wait till their fur has little value and target cats. Spend several days making time consuming cat sets. Lots of flagging, lots of blocking, all the stuff that don't work on singing dogs. Stay tight in heavy cover, leave traps exposed, climb tall ridges to rimrock, wade creeks to get to the high bank, belly crawl into mesquite thickets or cedar wind breaks. The possums coons porky pines skunks and coyotes will absolutely have gang fights over who can get in your trap first.

Our laws limit us on trap size and we have more fox than coyotes so, I mostly set 1.75s and 2s.

I don't use much lure while land trapping so usually buy some Powder River and Hiawatha Valley. Trying to save a few bucks, I've ground beaver and muskrat meat and mixed it in with the above baits.

One thing I've learned over the years, it doesn't seem to matter what's in the hole during the dead of winter, the coyotes will eventually investigate it. The most important thing is keeping the trap operating.

Talk about operating! I had to see my urologist yesterday for an every other year check-up due to having bladder cancer years ago. Next thing ya know, he's got his big, fat finger right in the hole. Felt violated to the 7th degree!

The one that's holding the coyote, and the one that got him there.

Graham's Deception, red fox urine, and a Montana 3 Coyote Special would be my go to set up.

Of course like Danny says- the perfect bobcat set gets their attention PDQ.

…. I’ve run the 2 dogless for a few years now … had a few pad caught pull out in front of me so 4 coiled … still have one or two popped jaws a year … too lazy to bubble them … but I’ve found no practical reason to lam as my pan tension keeps most grays out and they’re few and far between anymore

Yes. And that is the reason for it all. If I was fur market trapping..... my answer would be a Jake trap.

I use offset MB-450’s because we don’t have many yotes. I like using cable, so I’m sure that’s how I’d catch one.

Favorite lure is whatever is in the hole. I use a lot of Hoosier Trappers Leatherwood Creek. Also, been know to dabble with some lure I can’t remember. Dibbens, dabbins… something like that.

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

My 2 bridgers are at about 25 years old at least. No base plate. Just a rectangle shaped clovis made of round stock and welded together.
