Mutual friend from Canada cam down to visit me and the wife and wanted to go to New Orleans so...

it's good that New Orleans smells like good food , Chicago smelled like urine and pot. the last two times I was there. That combo doesn't do much for a persons appetite.

And honestly.... Cafe'due mon...or how ever you say it is way over hyped...benigets are ok but the way folks act over them ...I mean it's basically just a funnel cake

The best places are always frequented by locals, away from the tourist areas.

I’m a swamp boat guide just outta New Orleans. Wolfdog you and your buddy should come out. Gators,raccoons and wild pigs are moving good right now.
A tour like this would satisfy everyone in your group. We don’t make up stories we just give the facts on the history of the swamp. I’m a staunch conservative but you will see me and my family with colored hair too…..at Mardi Gras!LOL

Are we in the bayou ? Will we see the bayou? I wanna see gators.... Instead we walked bourbon street and stayed in a karaoke bar for 2 hrs.... but whatever wife only gets like a week of vacation a year with her job and she really wanted this so I was just there to make sure they where safe..

Hey Wolfie, my family and I were just there too! We took a trip to the beach in Florida and decided we might as well take the long way home and see some things that we'd never seen before and will most likely never make a specific effort to see again. The city was culturally...interesting. To be honest, my kids were pretty freaked out by the crowds, the drugs, and the mental illness. Underneath all of that, there's some fascinating history. I'm glad we all got to see it, but we had a lot more fun (and good food!) south of town out in the bayou. The beignets at Cafe du Monde were fine, but I agree: nothing to write home about. Happy to be back in KS where there's a little bit of elbow room. Seems like anywhere east of Kansas City is just full of so many people!

Wolfdog listen to this guy. I've been to New Orleans and actually we'll go back someday. The swamp tour we done was the best thing on the trip.

And for the jerkwads bringing up politics, get a life. Sometimes enough is enough. I think politically quite often and am conservative but there's no point to bring that into this thread at all.
Wolfie have fun and get back to the hotel by dark or shortly after to avoid the crazy people.

Yep New Orleans is a place where you either get it or you don’t. Definitely not for everyone but if you know how to do things at the right times and go to the right places the history and culture are second to none! Avoid the French Quarter ghost tours.Me and my family chose to live right outside of the city in the swamps….life is good.

Wolfie did you get to the WWII museum? That's a cool place to tour along with the swamp. I like hearing and seeing the history if it peaks my interest. The swamp tour we were on the guide talked about the wild rice harvest, cypress trees, along with fishing and gator hunting etc. Riding the trolley rail was cool too. Runs close to most of the areas you would want to check out IMO.

Hey Badger23 what swamp tour did y’all go with in New Orleans? I’m just curious because I’m in the business.

A little off the subject but if you are into that type of thing and if you come back to the state..try going North of St. Francisville and touring some of those Antebellum homes. Of course, you might have plenty of those there too. One claims to be really haunted (no idea if it is) and another was the scene for the mini-series The North and The South...I think it starred Patrick Swayze. I just remember seeing something about it. One word of advice...If you notice, there are something on top of power poles that look a bit like a transformer. They ain't. They're a pretty big speaker. There is a nuclear power plant nearby and those are used as a warning system if they have a disaster. Now...on the 1st Wednesday of each month; they test these things. It's funny..if you are near one and it turns away from you, you can hear the next one a mile away. If it goes off at any other time' you got a problem.

Marshcat, Ill see if my wife has any info (pictures) on who we went with. It'll be a longshot because I think it was in 2018 or 19. When we get back down there we plan on doing a plantation tour, swamp tour, and look around the French Quarter a little bit in the daylight of course.

Wasn't meant as an insult, actually figured she did it for the New Orleans trip. Just for the record my wife had what I would call Burgundy hair the entire time we were dating and when we got married. (she has since let it go natural and it is going gray, probably from having to put up with me). While I've never understood women coloring their hair, I've never understood makeup either and figure both are just something most women do and if it makes them happy I'm fine with it.

And I never mentioned politics, other than to point out that the assumed "liberal Canadian" was actually an American married to you.
