Wow....turkeys here seem to "shed" or lose length on their beards...is that common?
Ive had numerous male turkeys coming through the place, same ones, and the beards never seem to get long...

That's a beaut. I'd guess 12" at least. You here a lot About gobblers with 12" beards but rarely see one.

That gobbler's beard is impressive anywhere.

They can wear away length, health conditions can create weak zones in the beard as it grows out like hair these weak spots can then break off.
