When I limited out on squirrels in under 5 minutes. There was probably an inch deep of beech nuts under the trees. I tried some of the nuts and thought they were good. They are easy to eat similar to sunflower seeds. I've seen apparently healthy racoons eating beech nuts in broad daylight at Sycamore. The crows, jays, cardinals and doves were rapidly eating the beech nuts too. I did real good hunting doves there.

I have a few in my woods. Beech is one of my favorite trees. I have a soft spot for them.
There are a few of them around here in some of the woodlots.

I have bought them thru the county tree program.
The deer like the seedlings, so that eliminated most of them. Just a couple remain.
Just like White Oaks if you want beech trees you'll have to protect them from deer at least around here..

We have plenty of beech at our camp, but it has been 20 years since we had a good crop.
Like was said above ,empty hulls,or empty beechnuts.
