I’m wondering about registered traplines. Is still happening?

What is still happening? Is there an effort to register trapline some where?

I thought there are registered traplines in Canada. Where the trapper has sole trapping rights to his assigned area and is responsible for a quota. Do people sell their rights to the area when they retire? Does the next of kin inherit it? Just wondering how it all works.

As far as I know, at least up to, and including last year, yes. Traplines are still a commodity that can be owned and sold IN CANADA. I'm sure a few Canadians will chime in with more specifics.

Just doing what I want now.

Registered lines are still a thing. Different rules for each province, some provinces you own/buy the rights, others you are awarded them.

I have a registered line in Northern Manitoba that I was awarded using a points system. As long as I produce fur I keep the line in my name. I can approve 2 helpers to assist me. We do not have a quota system, it's mine to manage.

Wyoming still has areas where beaver are regulated with individual trappers assigned the trapping rights. Antiquated laws are still on the books, this is a relic from back in the days of the early 20th century when beavers were being reintroduced.
