Rub sawdust into the leather. It will dry it right up.

Just doing what I want now.

Next time you put up beavers run a pull type paint scraper over the leather side and clean up the grease on there. That way when dry they're clean enough to eat off of. I use paper towels to wipe up the the grease and juice that the scraper pulls out of the leather.

For drying time it all depends on your fur shed. I have a smaller enclosed room that I run fans in and a dehumidifier. They're ready to come off the boards in three days. Sometimes a bit less.

How do you guys tell when all the fat and gristle is off the actual leather itself? I sometimes question whether I’ve gotten everything off and where the leather starts, especially near the base of the tail/back area.

If you see white fat still on the pelt you know you need to go at it a little more. With a pull type paint scraper you can pull out the water, blood, and fat still left on and in the leather. You know you have it right when you pull things off the board and there are just a few tiny beads of grease on the pelt that easily wipe off with a rag or paper towel.

Pic: This is the only thing I use after clean-skinning beaver and this pelt is now ready to go to the drying room.
