I’ve never tried it and need advice. Had a decent frost and about ready to cut crop back to ground level. Noticed a lot of seeds and want to start a new long term bed? Zone 4 here for what it’s worth

I got some seeds from Seeds n Such. They recommend soaking the seeds overnight to soften them up. I ignored the advice and just planted them shallow in the Spring. They germinated well but didn’t grow very tall. The second year they took off and I expect to pick some next Spring.

I’ve done it a couple ways.
Pick the berries and separate the seeds and dry.
One year I started them under a grow light and had about 90% germination, let them grow for a couple months then transplanted into bed and had real good luck.
One year I just took seeds and spread them into already established bed then added a inch of soil over and watered good for a couple weeks, again had real good luck with germination.

bed prep is first.......a good foot of manure covered with 4 inches soil and place the seeds all over.....takes a couple of years

i spread the red berries and mash them in the ground. I have not seen any results from using the berry seed on wild plants.

I did it once it took a long time to germinate , I did it in trays in the spring you can transplant when they get large enough

the are a a bit of a slow starter so would be easy to get choked out by weeds at least my gardens weeds so raising them in the trays for a while then transplanting

you can also save time and buy crowns it gives you a head start on production
