Hello, I live along one of the scenic rivers in Alaska and a friend from town asked about the BLM cabin permitting process. I dont know anything about it, has anyone ever tried to navigate that? I assume like most things with the feds theyre impossible to get.

Yes I attempted to get one in a wild and scenic corridor, it was a preexisting cabin. I fought with BLM for a few years over it and as far as I know it is still in appeal. Not sure how the BLM is to deal with now but this was during bribems reign of terror. We fought the park service over another cabin permit during the obummer years and were eventually successful during Trump's first term so I would certainly give it a shot but beware your permit will hang by a thread depending on who's in office and can be denied at any time on a whim. Just keep that in mind if your going to put a bunch of time and effort into building a cabin because you may just lose it, this happened to me personally.
