One of the farmers I know puts out house kitchen scraps year round to feed the crows. He gets a huge kick out of watching the birds and knows a ton about bird behavior. Any way, when the food disappears over night he knows that something has been raiding his pile so he gets out three Dog Proof traps and sets them with a big marshmallow on the trigger and one in the tube. He also tosses some marshmallows on the ground to entice them. He then squirts strawberry ice cream syrup over the top of the baits in the trap to make it even more interesting. It isn't uncommon for him to catch three animals a night. Once there is no action he pulls the traps and goes back to feeding his crows until the next time the scraps begin disappearing too quickly. Since September he has caught six skunks and probably a dozen coons. Over the course of the year this simple set accounts for a lot of animals.

I do the same thing at our ranch deer feeders. I wait for coons to show up on camera. Then I set up my dog proof traps. I catch the coons. Then I let the traps sit there dormant until a new set of coons show up. Then I rinse and repeat.

I catch well over a hundred from October-January off ten feeders. I also catch skunks, opossums, etc.

I use deer corn mixed with catfish food. I top it with crawfish oil. I also run the oil down the feeder legs. My DPs are usually attached to bottom of the legs.

It doesn’t affect the hunting that I can tell.
