Well, I am confused. In my Lure books it says raccoons are attracted to peppermint oil. However when you google it, it says that it is used to keep raccoons away and repel them. I was working on a trailing scent for raccoons. What is your take???

i use old fryer grease with night owls banana oil when the weather cools down i use fish oil with shellfish oil added with 2 tbs

sugar also added and have had luck with a anise flavored liquer with glycerin added as a cutting oil so it doesnt evaporate quick and anise oil added to boost it up

Peppermint oil is supposed to keep alot of things away. But it doesnt! I know I would trust what is written in the lure books long befor anything on google! Peppermint oil should work fine in formulation for raccoons but it wouldnt be my first choice either.

I can’t imagine there’s many smells out there that would keep coon away.

Saw a buddy put copenhagen in a pocket set. We had been talking about whether or not there was stuff they were not curious about. That set hit. Next time he tried it, it did not. I think wintergreen is better than peppermint.

So you recommend Kodiak over Copenhagen?

My main reason is I got a 16 ounce bottle of peppermint given to me and I am trying to find a use for it.

Peppermint oil is strong and can really add to the calling power of a lure. I have found that alone the odor dissipates pretty fast. I find the biggest value as a side odor in a lure. Try pairing it in some bases with anise, fennel, rhodium, or even a citrus odor like bergamot.
