Does anyone know what is making these cattails fall over like this? I have been scouting my property for the upcoming season and its like a large animal or a tornado knocked them down. I know its not the wind because it has been calm the last couple of days and a new section is down. I first though maybe as they go brown and die they fall over, but earlier they were green and still falling over. I sometimes get deer, but there are no deer prints around. This is the third year I noticed this but never put much thought until now. We have several coyotes, could they be knocking them down? It just seems strange.

Wind......... Our corn planted in 20" row spacing will lodge a lot more frequently than corn planted in 30-36" rows. Cattails in wetland scenes will go down a lot more when density is extremely high and plants are trying to "out compete" each other for sunlight. Common occurrence in those conditions. Side note: lots of data on duck and muskrat usage of cattail areas and the distance between plants in marshes, if you want to look it up. My experience. ............the mike
