Commercial coyote bait is pretty much easy to buy nowadays… from cavens “ hiwaithia valley “ to Hoosier supply “ top dog” …. And a number of others… I remember, before the days of the commercial bait so to say… my dad always used the catfish bait that came in tubs at the tackle shop…
For you guys who also have been at it for awhile,, what did you guys use that brought a degree of success??

House-cat was our go to bait for foxes in PA, than and dove backs after we had cut the breasts out. Cut into assorted sized pieces from dim to 50 cents in gallon jar in the sun stirred every day till it had a greenish hue, then add 1 cup salt, some glycerine and VIOLA- for winter 8-10 drops skunk essence to GALLON of bait - we called it SKAT - skunked Cat
I have tried groundhog but it was never a great bait for me, here in Iowa I have used beaver - pretty good, deer liver and heart - VERY GOOD and muskrat - also very good
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure

First bait I tried was canned cat food. On the pan of a longspring my grandad had. Set atop the ground uncovered with a piece of moms panty hose wrapped around it to hold it on.

Lightly tainted chucks of venison about the size of a walnut. It really was pretty hard to beat. We did this with rockchucks and rabbits, in loose-lid mason jars. Sometimes would dribble the rancid juice on a nearby log or bush. It worked.

I ground up a mixture of carp and muskrat. Worked great fresh. I still do this a little. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I also trapped a lot of mice over the summers and froze those whole and fresh. My first coyote was on a frozen mouse down a dirthole. Jim
