I remember the first time I had to make a hole in a nail that throbbed like it was hit by a hammer every time my heart beat.
I didn't use a drill bit. I used a very sharp knife and carefully whittled a notch it it until the dam broke.
That was a tense moment because it already hurt and here I am slicing a hole in my dang fingernail.
I was ready to give up all of my top secrets to the Vietcong, but I didn't know of any nearby. I stayed strong and didn't crack.
When I finally broke through and the sudden pressure release occurred, I thought that I had carved too deep. It was an intense feeling, but it wasn't pain, it was intense relief.

Heat a needle red hot and it goes through the nail easily. Pain is just a reminder that you are alive lol. Sorry Bob i know that hurt

I pinched mine a few years ago, first thing in the morning at work, all by myself 4:00 am. Had to finish loading the compactor on the truck and drive to the shop and clean it up a bit. Never been the same.

I like the hot pin method, but have drilled them also.
Hard to believe how much pain relief comes instantly.

Bet that one hurt Bob

I was in high school and thumb got smashed in ag class first thing in the morning.
I was miserable all day
When dad got home from work he convinced me to let him burn a hole in it and the relief was instant.

From then on I put a hole in a mashed one as soon as I can.

Last time I used a tiny drill bit, rotating between my finger tips not in a drill, and the issue with that is when it went through it grabbed and then I thought I was going to have to go get help to get it out of my nail laugh
But I got my multitool and managed to reverse it

Then when it finally started falling off, I had one of the docs at work "block" that finger which involved a hypodermic between the fingers on each side of the affected one. It was hanging on pretty good in one little area and I didn't want it getting ripped off
