Old Timer Improved Muskrat, the American made ones bought before Schrade sold out to Taylor Brands and they started being manufactured "overseas."

I bought some a couple years ago and they were the overseas brand. They were terrible compared to the original Schrade's. Don't waste your money on them.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

I've got four of them, new in the box. One for each of my kids. My favorite as well. [Linked Image]

Havalon or Weibe for a guy that hates to sharpen a blade but they take some getting accustomed to. Just pop off a blade and pop on a new one nothing to get careless with you should set it down if you need to pull on the hides.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I bought mine from John Epler (Epler Fur Company) back in the early 2000's. I had heard that Schrade was closing. My daughter and I were selling fur to John and I noticed he had some of the American-made Improved Muskrats for sale. I bought all six he had in stock with some of our fur check money. I gave one to my daughter who was my skinner at the time. I eventually gave one to my future son-in-law, one to my grandson, one to my granddaughter who is my current skinner and I kept two for myself. Good thing I kept a spare because the blades are getting pretty thin on the first one.

Eh...wot?

Those Havalon types are great, but you better pay attention, almost too sharp....use a light touch!, lol

Havalon... after many, many worn out Case Muskrat w/ 2 clip blades. The Havalon blade really IS a scalpel.

I have a case copper that I really like. Easy to sharpen and lays flat in your pocket.

My favorite.

I have the one my brother carried before he died as well.

.... And I bought one for my boy too.

I like and own both, but I'd tend to agree with you.

I was up at my great aunts place aka deer camp 2 weeks ago , my cousin owns it now that she passed and is going through everything , she brought out this pot and asked if we knew what this stuff was.

the knife pictured and another were in the pot this one was mine the others my dads , both old USA Scharade

My great aunt would apparently find the little things we left hunting and put them in the ceramic pot and forget about them by the next November

there must have been 5 little compasses in that pot , a collection of ammo mostly 20ga , the 2 knives and a few other things.

if I had to guess I probably lost that knife in around 2006 so cool to have my knife back after almost 20 years. you just can't quite find them like that any more.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My favorite o!d timer is the big version of the muskrat knife then the 80T stockman then the old 1970's model Case Sod Buster . no matter what knife you use a F. Dick steel to touch up the edge they last much longer then !

You're friend along the snare line .
