I made a post awhile back about the no bs dogproofs having very stiff triggers and it was suggested that I could probably wax the triggers…
Was that recommended for just the dog or the whole trigger mechanism??
Getting my wax hot as I type this for my other traps and thought I’d dip the dog in it. But wasn’t entirely sure of what
Some of you guys meant.
I guess I could just dip it and scrape the excess off..
But thought I’d ask beforehand

I'd just rub wax on the dog and work it into the trigger,,,,unless you want to wax the whole thing....if the rubbed wax is too thick you can hit it quick with a torch....

I waxed mine a couple seasons but probably won’t do that again. Some of the bunch wouldn’t stay set for me and would go off as I was walking away. I tried scraping the dog and notch it helped but they still misfired often.
I ended up taking a match to the dog and notch to burn off the wax

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I spray the springs and mechanism with penetrating oil doesn’t bother the coons and don’t have trigger trouble

Carry a crayon for your trigger and dog in your bag/bucket/pocket/4 wheeler. I've done it on rusty triggers part way through season and it work well

I had the same experience when I had the bright idea to wax DP's.

That's a good idea.

this one wasn't even waxed just an aggressive mouse

I caught a lot of mice when I waxed my first batch of DPs

I would say as needed on the dog and trigger

I also oiled some this year as they were getting stiff triggers not wanting to turn on the pin , they were out for months trapping around poultry enclosures and they still caught I used 3 in 1 oil as I had it in the truck.

I usually use mineral oil on the trigger pivots, they do get stiff, but I expect any oil will do... coons don't seem to care

could probably just store DPs in a bucket of old fish fry grease and they would catch like mad

Only problem with that is I get hungry on the trapline and a crayon won't last long at all.

Fryer oil is a main ingredient in my trailing scent and I just make sure to get some on the dog/trigger/spring every time I set. I will run DPs 4 - 5 months straight before dropping them in the dye pot. Works well
