Build a shelf for binos and such. Install the shelf a foot or more below the windows so your movement of items to and from the shelf is outta sight. Put cheap carpet on floor, walls, shelves to muffle sounds. Put padding or piece of carpet in the window sill to lay rifle on. I just remodeled this big house. Had it for several years and neglected it. Got it in a good location and its ready. Son and DIL hunted from it a couple days ago...saw doe & yearlings and small 6pt... ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/10/full-11603-272231-1000002111.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/10/full-11603-272233-1000002150.jpg) Im about to build several more that are much smaller than that one. 4x4 is too small. 5x5 is about right for 1 person.

Flat black paint inside. If you’re anywhere it gets cold, install double pane flip up (awning?) windows often found in basements…single pane can fog up Down here in the South we open the windows as soon as we sit down.

I built a stand out of scrap lumber/material when I was doing construction on the side before my kids started hunting. The enclosed part was 8’x4’ with a 4’x4’ landing where the steps came up. We killed 23 bucks out of that stand before I bought my own land and moved on.
I even had a smoker on the landing. The stand was located on a ridge fence line. The only cover coming up from the river bottom to the big timber. I could see 600 yards one way and 800 yards the other that was all open ground and they didn’t want to cross.
Saw deer from daylight to dark but never killed a deer over 120” from that stand. Since I bought my farm 8 years ago, we have killed 2 over 160” and several 150-140” deer. Including two 140” from this bow season this year. None of those bucks were from a permanent stand. If you are looking for a place to take kids or not picky, then monuments like that are fine. If you want a trophy, use a climbing stand.

We have killed quite a few of our biggest bucks out of plywood or fiberglass “box stands”. If there is a remote possibility of flooding - do not use any carpet.

A couple mornings roll out of bed and be in ankle deep water lol … rent was only 200 a month and decent fishing right out the back door lol … wish I would have took pictures of those days

It’s not a construction thing but, it’s best to hide a permanent blind in conifers, behind brush, trees….otherwise, as stated above, you probably won’t fool the old bucks. Set in the open at the edge of a food plot around here might fill the freezer but it likely won’t burden you with a taxidermy bill. Hide em if you can More good info^^^

This is my bow (crossbow) buck from this year. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/FsSXpQjr/IMG-0201.jpg) This buck is bigger than any I killed off of the farm I hunted for close to 30 years where box blinds and drives were the norm.

On the ground or elevated? Mr Buddy heater around here, sliding windows, foam board on the walls around here, metal roof, try to get it as bug proof as possible (can foam) as wasps will take up residence. On the ground ..maybe slightly elevated. Was thinking. Of building it on Skids so he can just haul it behind the fourwheeler. The elevated ones see like a bit of a pain ...also we already have a few all around the property

Get him out of a blind or where you off in some odd corner where folks usually avoided ? That's what j was told is the thing to do on those types of places lol

All that makes good sense, question how do you deal with mice and wasps in yours ? Seems all the one sive been in like that tend to have issues with both of those...then again most don't seem to care about them till a month before season so

Here’s two I built last year
Man those are nice ! What are you using for the wood ? Paneling or plywood? Also are those just big rocks under the lags or pavers ?

OK story is kinda long so will try to keep it short.
Last year was the first year in over 40 years I didn’t tag a buck either archery or gun. Had many many chances but our bucks on our property just showed too much potential. We have an uncle that grows pumpkins and gets damage permits. He has asked but I always decline to shoot and have to leave them lay. Last year our bucks needed at least a year or more so we used our tags to take antlerless off both our property and uncles.
Fast forward to this year. Had two solid bucks 4.5-5.5 yr olds on camera. Got rain on food plots early but they started drying out. Had pics of the buck hitting the pond next to food plot for 3 straight nights right at dark. Had a good wind, left work two hours early and he came in at 6:20. Short run heard hi Crash/thrash. Was boon out and on ice in s little over an hour.

The one thing I feel is important if the stand is elevated are stairs and not a ladder. Build stairs with hand rails with a small deck by the door so you can easily stand there and open the door. Much safer then a ladder.
