Any of you whiners look at your interest rates on your loans? How about your fuel bills? Trump talks about bringing down the price of beef for consumers and you get all teary. We have already hit consumer resistance level of price in stores and the shortage of replacements is driving feedlot prices, gonna be a wreck soon, Argentena beef or not.

Just the right amount of whelm.

Its also been reported that the Argentine beef would barely replace the beef we are NOT now getting from Mexico. I have a small beef herd and am enjoying the prices, but hating the volatility.

Ranchers get one paycheck a year, it comes in Oct or November usually and mid Oct Trump makes an announcement that cost them thousands of dollars. This on the heels of years of price fixing and manipulation, buncha whiners

I wish we could have easier regulations selling direct to consumer and on farm butcher. USDA could have a template of a small, affordable shop that producers could build and sell from. I would love to have beef that never leave the farm and could be sold from the farm but the cost is exuberant and last time I tried to comprehend all the regulations for starting a small shop my brain melted.

That's what Rand Paul has been pushing for years. The bill has been getting skipped over every session. There's to much money to be made in political donations from the big processors.

Sorry if it hits your bottom line, seriously.

But I can appreciate being able to afford some beef again....chicken legs and cheap pork gets stale after awhile...

A major reason meat is high is that a few corporations have a near monopoly on processing. This bill would break that.

Keith

Almost all commercial beef processing takes place at three processing plants in the US that are owned by the same conglomeration of mostly Chinese businesses.

Even I know this is wrong and I am not even from there. Tyson foods is your biggest, they're not Chinese, but they operate in China too.

Sidenote: Enjoyed a few days in MN Sat-yesterday, I enjoy some football. My gosh from clothing to fishing lures, to confectionary items, I see why many Americans are mad at inflation. Sheesh, I can't believe I used to buy fishing lures there at 50% the cost of here, now they are 150% the cost. Some of these lure companies are American companies too. Someone explain how I can buy a little cleo here for less in Canadian dollars than i can there in US dollars.

We had democrats pass two spending bills that cost us 2 trillion dollars for nothing.

One called the inflation reduction act that cost us 750 billion and did the opposite,
One called the green new deal or infrastructure that cost us 1.2 trillion.

We spent our way into massive inflation and prices haven't come back down.

So high government spending caused inflation there and in turn a country with high government spending and inflation gets lures from aforementioned country and sells them for less money than the first country with high government spending. Huh. I’d have guessed gouging the consumer.

Could be gouging,
Or
Your importer bought a bunch before inflation and is still selling at old price and you're not seeing said inflation yet. Its coming ,

Need to pick up a few head. Tried to buy some fall calving cows with calves on their side last week, and came home from the sale barn with an empty trailer. I have to admit that if the cow price is driven down shortly, that would not hurt my feelings. Then if the calf market would go back up sometime between say May and November, that would be just fine by me... but I'm not holding my breath on either.

We've bought low and sold high before...and bought high and sold low before. Stay in the game and things average out. Those jumping in big to try to take advantage of the hot market like to gamble more than me.

I do feel for those families trying to raise some teenage boys. Their feed bill has to be painful.

I'm not going to wait to count hands. You lost money every year for 7 years. If you didn't lose there wasn't much meat left on the bone after cost. I'm finally recouping some and I hope Cheshire cheetah keeps his mouth shut for a while.

My parents had cattle since I was a little kid, seemed like it was always a struggle. Old trailers, old gates, worn out pickups, no 4 wheelers, fences patched together.

A childhood of farming Trauma is what has enabled me to successfully run a business as an adult.

The same must be said for the Clothing and baseball cap importers.

I don’t buy much beef anymore unless I want to splurge, I love it: I hope prices stay high for the producers.

Consumers have yet to balk much at the high protein prices, especially beef. Pork is down and chicken and turkey are not out of line much at all. There seems to be a trend starting late this sumer about consumers backing off on protein and that may drop all meats and maybe beef as well. Americans are beef eaters. As stated above, it is supply and demand.

Several years of drought in the great plains have dropped the cow herd to the lowest in a couple generations. This takes time to rebuild and not many are keeping back heifers at over $3 per lbs. for feeders
Brazil owns 60% of the beef processing in the US. With the 50% tariffs with Brazil, not much beef coming from there
Screw worm in Mexico is stopping several hundred thousand to a million feeders a year from coming to the USA.
We are dealing with tariff issues with Australia (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) well and they ship beef here too.
We have weather, politics and risk avoidence taking place and some to many not go away quickly.
The dairy industry is providing the highest percentage of beef meat in the history of the dairy herd.
Supply could be long in gong up. Consumer demand is what will change prices the most in the near term. 20 % of the wealthy Americans are driving our economy. The other 80% is not doing very well and this type of economy is not sustainable.

Run a small herd side hustle since 2013. Our little operation has grown. But, no debt and not having to live off it makes a big difference.
