Question if I may...

Do male and female beaver respond the same way to castor mounds?

Example: Say I took out the male, but then left in the house was a female.

If presented with a castor mound on another night..... Would she attack a castor mound (using castor from outside the colony) or get spooked and not visit the area?

Many times ..I have removed most of the beaver with the same lure....but the big female was still out and about.

Traps were quiet for 2 days.

That's when you bring in your closer ( Bob Wilson's Green Beaver Lure )

Thanks. I wasn't sure based on your answer... were you saying castor (by itself) does or does not pull in both males and females?

I had back breaker out for 4-5 days

Then switched to Bob Wilson's lure...to get a reaction from the sly female

Once I changed up the lure...she was out defending her turf

Interesting. So maybe we don't have a definitive answer to the question yet. Was she scared of the initial castor I wonder after the others disappeared? Or, just bored?

Who is the "Major Boddicker" of beaver trapping I wonder? I would like to see if they have studies.

Just pain sac oil is the secret weapon. It's not territorial and at times I'll use it instead of castor at a castor mound set.

I'm thinking once everyone was gone...she put 2+2 together .. and stayed

Clear of that lure

Castor from one of her colony mates will often catch the female. Or sac oil as mentioned.
