Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to the forum.

I just got my trapping license and I am preparing for my first season. I'm in my late 30s so I got the bug kind of late. I had nearly all my chickens get eaten by bobcat earlier this year, so I started looking into trapping them. Next thing I know, I am really falling in love with the sport.

I have a couple of good friends/neighbors who have been trapping for decades. They are super knowledgeable and they have been a great resource for getting started. That being said, they are pretty busy and I won't be able to actually go out in the field with them.

Im located in Roundup MT. Anyone else in the area? It would be great to connect with someone local. I would love to get some firsthand experience in the field if anyone is looking for a helper.

Right now Im mainly interested in targeting coyote, fox, and bobcat. So far, all I have managed to catch are a few skunks, but I am learning more everyday. Any advice is always welcome and appreciated.

Looking forward to connecting with everyone on here!

welcome sureshot.

i am of no help with montana. but i would love to trap it some day. those skunks you have caught have value. i would skin them and sell them to a buyer. have you thought about fur handling at all or just selling your skins green?

anyway good luck finding someone. i see there are quite a few guys active on the forum from montana.

Never too late to catch the bug. I know of some dang fine trappers that started waaaay older than you are right now. And I think you're going about it the right way in reaching out to trappers that already have learned a few tricks.

Skin them big money skonks!

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Got a job app in at Northwest Energy in Billings, right now. We’ll see how that goes. Wouldn’t be too far then.

Did you get your tag validated for bobcat? That and then just watch the quota, sometimes they fill fast which stinks because the cats don't really prime up till January

Welcome! I'm not near you, a few hours up north but if you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out.

Welcome to the zoo better known as T man ! I just drove through Roundup on my way to see my grandkids .

I'd suggest joining the Montana Trappers Assoc . Enjoy and don't be afraid to ask questions on here as there's a lot of experience in many of the folks on here .

You're friend along the snare line .
