I was surprised to find that Outback Steakhouse actually makes a fantastic clam chowder. No tomatoes but lots of other veggies. It wasn’t white but kinda tan in color .
I like New England clam chowder. I've only ever had Campbell's, Progresso and Aldi's. I'm sure the home made stuff is much better. I don't think I've had clam chowder for at least a couple of years. I forgot about it. We don't commonly buy canned soup. It might have been a couple of years since we bought canned soup .
Not my recipe, same as New England style but add a can of tomato soup at the end. Have to agree with others though, razor clams the best. Get mine on WA beaches though.
In the Wintah time ...I seek out to find the best bowl of Clam Chowdah.
Everyone has their claim to fame..about their Chowdah.
But one bowl sticks in my head ...
Years back ...I was at the UNH ( University of NH ) ...Wildcats hockey game in Durham NH.
And in between periods ..I noticed a long line forming at some food stand.
I could smell it...and stood in line...twas the Best EVAH !!!
Sometimes the best soup/chowdah comes from professional food service retailers to the trade. I used to go to this one deli alot because it was near my job. Great new england chowder on Fridays. Got it all the time. Sadly , they went out of business. As one of the last times they were still open , one of the guys who worked there and who knew me as a good customer asked if I wanted to know the recipe for their chowder.
He showed me a food service #10 can. They didn't do anything other heating it up and serving it to you. Just your standard food service/restaurant pack. Much more clams/fancier ingredients than standard consumer grade , but sold at at the same price point to restaurants per serving compared to consumer grade due to volume.
I worked for a Fortune 500 company on a campus around 10K employees. The company staffed and managed it's own cafeteria and had excellent foods from the main course to desserts. One of my favorites was their New England Clam Chowder. Employees could place orders to carry home. I carried a many a gallon of Clam Chowder home over the years before they sub contracted out the cafeteria service and screwed everything up.

Do you know which food service company the clam chowder came from. We have some Gordon Foods Service stores in Ohio. None are very close to me now. When I lived closer, I would occasionally shop there and was impressed by their quality and prices.
My favorite is Cioppino, has more than clams in it, little spicy. There is a place I Florence Oregon if you are ever near that has great New England style clam chowder, it’s called the Firehouse. They have the deluxe which they add Dunngeness crab, bay shrimp and shredded cheese baked on top. Served with a Texas garlic toast. It’s outstanding. We just were there last Monday, piles of crab and shrimp, and you actually find clams in it. To many soups are more potato chowder.

Sadly , this was years ago and I don't remember the brand. Sorry. Food service/restaurant packs are made very differently than consumer grade. The idea is you will be willing to spend a goodly amount at a restaurant for a single serving of exceptional quality and the restaurant can make a decent profit. The downside to this is large quantities which may not work that well when everything comes in a #10 can and they want a minimum sale of a case of 6 cans.
I like Hatteras style. Just 4 ingredients: chopped clams, water, onion, and potato. No salt needed but generous black pepper. A little fatback grease in the bottom of the pot is good to me.

X2 on the ciopinno. Used to get a good one at Moe's in Florence but Moe's kind of went down in quality from when I was a lad. I'll have to check out the Firehouse next time I'm through Florence.

I'll have to give this a try
I really like the chowder at Georgie's in newport..........heaping tablespoon of butter on top......cover the entire surface with black pepper
Moe's chowder is nothing more than vomit

Georgie’s , try the seafood fondue in the bar. Rich! Can’t beat the view there. Really all the food is good there as well as tidal raves in Depoe Bay. I have been doing a bunch of work for the Coast Guard before the shut down, they pay enough we can eat out when down there.

I make my own. Always New England. Sometimes I make seafood chowder . Made some the other day with fresh red potatoes, fresh sweet corn, sweet onions, celery, smoked salmon, Oregon costal shrimp and clams. I was looking at the store they had a bowl full in a plastic container and wanted 12 bucks for it.
