Im seeing this woman and she wants to start trapping. So we are going over the rules and I cam across this.
So I called Lansing to find out what should be written in letter making someone a agent. The landy said l can't find it in the furharvesters guild let me put you on hold and I will check our book. So she comes back on and said she found it in their book but it didn't give details as to what you should write. Se she says I'll transfer you to Chad he will know how to word it. So she transfers me and a woman answers, I tell her my question and she asks chad. She gets back on the phone and says, You can't have someone else check your traps. If you can't you need to pull them. We'll then why is everything else saying you can? And she says we'll hes the guy that would know. So I hang up and call the Lansing number again and I get Heidi this time. The other lady was busy. So I ask her, when I give someone written permission to check my traps what does it say in "your" book on what should be in writing. And she said. Your name. Address, and license number and that you give so and so permission to check your traps and give their name, address and license number.
So what do you guys do? I had two people from the DNR tell me you can and their book say you can and its online that you can but one guy that's supposed to know all says no.

If it was my wife's traps I'd check them regardless and keep my mouth shut.This is one of those rules if you ask 6 different DNR people you're liable to get 6 different answers.Like a question I once heard from a trapper asking a game warden about caching traps that for one reason or another he couldn't get them all out of the field The warden told him if they aren't set I wouldn't worry about it.I asked another warden sometime after that the same question and he told me if their in the field they're as good as set and he'd write you up for it.I wouldn't ask for permission,Id just plead ignorant if the situation came up.

Thats the plan just thought more people might have delta with this.

Every states DNR has the same deal, here we have phone "Volunteers" That don't know squat giving out answers.

Personally,the reason most don't deal with it is because they just do it,and most wardens don't want to be bothered with such things.That's my take on it.

When I feel like I have to have an answer, I call the warden for the area I will be in.

yup and sometimes they don't know so you tell them your logic and he approves or disapproves

generally if it is logical he agrees


the way we have it in WI if you have your tag on the trap you can check it
all my tags have my # and my sons #
so either of us can check them.


the way I read what the OP posted is
you both have to be trappers
you both have to have licenses
you both have to follow all the rules
and with written permission and a time frame specified the other knows they are checking your traps for you

Yeah wisconsin is more straight forward with just putting your trap tags on and good enough

is there something saying you can't both have tags on the trap or a joint tag ?

also , where did you find a woman who wanted to go trapping and does she have a sister , asking for myself

In michigan you can't do the multiple people tags on one trap.
She does have a sister but definitely will never trap or hunt or have a house with dead animals.

Pete you could hang around the women's trapping camp booth at the convention in antigo next year. You might find who your looking for.

You can definitely run multiple tags on a trap and as far as permission, I'm sure a simple text on your phone of her asking you to check the traps would suffice, assuming you also have a license.
We mentor new trappers and kids often and we just twist tie the beginners tags on our traps so everyone is covered. Pull tags when they are done running with us or the season is over.

or get cracked over the back of the head with a trap shovel because they want to be left alone.
